Who are you really, who are any of us when we really think about it? Some time ago my wife thought that we should start having faith based discussions at the dinner table. I was open to the idea even though I don’t really like to talk while I’m supposed to be eating. She found this daily discussion list online called “My True Identity in Christ”. In my reluctance to do this thing that felt kind of hokey to me I learned something new about Jesus, my son, and myself. That something was that I’m not who I thought I was in Christ, I found out my son has a ton of intricate thoughts when it comes to faith, and I learned what Jesus really wanted for not just me but for everyone. Without proper consistent study of the scriptures it’s so easy to become a lukewarm Christian and that’s the last thing you want as a believer.

“All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teach us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” -2 Timothy 3:16-17-

I’ve read 2 Timothy a few times in the past few months and the reason I come back to it is simple, it reminds me of what the study of the word does in my life. 2 Timothy also constantly reminds me that no matter what we go through in this life nothing can change who God says we are unless we allow it to. I will be the first person to tell you that when I would face difficult situations that I would just either fall into old habits or just create a plan out of panic. Neither worked. It was only when I truly understood who I was in Christ that I realized that any plan without my God’s involvement is doomed to fail in the long run. Matthew 5:13 tells us that “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.” That verse in scripture speaks to me simply for the fact that Jesus himself is telling us that we are to be set apart so we can add God’s flavor to a devilishly bland world. The second part of the verse strikes me hard as well because if we forget who the Lord says we are then we fall prey to being just as lost as everyone else and we cannot be the change God calls us to be. That’s not how the Lord has called us to be at all.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”
-Jeremiah 29:11-

So who am I in Christ? I am a son, A husband, a brother, a father, a leader, a Kingdom man. I take heart in the fact that God himself has given me these important roles. Is it a big job? absolutely, but I’m glad to take on this big role. God has given me a purpose, a destiny and I want to fulfill his plan for my life. God in his very nature is love, so any plan he has for my life must be good and righteous. God is the Architect of all life, the universe is in his hands.

Thank you for taking time out your busy schedule to read this post today. You are appreciated always. Knowing your identity in Christ is of the utmost importance to help spread the kingdom of God. We have been given the blueprint on how to live under God’s authority. We as Christians all have spiritual gifts we need to tap into and cultivate for his glory. It starts with who God says you are. God bless and never stop Chasing God’s Way/ve.
