Dear Lord, this year I pray for accountability

As the saying goes I want to stand on business

I pray for the fall of old constructs built on fallacy

Lets get rid of all the me talk, that’s selfishness

New year, new me, cliche, so what?

As people are we not meant to evolve?

Oh I get it, you think it’s easier remain stuck, are you built like that?

The answer is easy, no you’re not, problem solved!

I say it’s easy because we’ve been given the blueprint to life

But the plan that God gave doesn’t align with what you want to do

Let your ambition crash and burn, guess who you’ll blame, we both know right?

You’ll get angry and yell “God, how could you let this happen I’m your child and I love you!”

You’ll act as if God is a dead beat dad and let your relationship fade

A river of tears will spill, but none of it was ever your fault

Nothing is going right, yet none of it was to blame on the choices you’ve made

Hold up, stop right there, let’s bring this to a halt!!

When do we take hold of our stuff and stop assigning blame?

Things were done to you, I know

Things that break down your spirit and make you feel shame

Did you know there is a savior who takes hold of your problems, so you can let go?

Come on, don’t roll your eyes I’m not talking religion, I’m talking relationship

When I first heard that, yeah, I too laughed and chuckled

Because my finite brain couldn’t accept that, I didn’t get it

Until the time came when real problems arose and my world crumbled

In retrospect, I blamed everything and everyone for what was wrong

No accountability for me

I chose to hold on to things that were long gone

No accountability, I couldn’t see

I chose to let anger fester and build inside

No accountability kept me prideful

I let the devil get his claws in my mind

No accountability kept me in denial

I say to you brothers and sisters, take accountability

Then take what you’ve done to the cross

Let Jesus wash it clean and give you stability

But no more, I said no more!

Now because of Jesus and the power of the blood he shed

We can move forward in His love galore

Yes, Jesus I’m thankful for the blood you bled!
